Firstly, I assume you can connect your PC to your printer to help diagnose (since you were able to upload firmware)?
1) Does it move too far in all directions? or just one?
2) For the stock FT-5 R2, the steps/mm for X & Y should be 80, and for Z should be 400. Is that what yours is set to? can check this when connected via PC with Pronterface with M501 or M92. If you want to change it (with M92), you'll have to save it to eeprom afterwards with M500 (assuming you have eeprom enabled... if you don't, changes won't be saved after reboot of controller)
3) do you have your driver microstepping jumpers set correctly? if its setup for 16 microsteps/step (stock), then the above numbers should work, if not, you should adjust the jumps on the drivers. take a look here for info, look at the A4988 driver section
4) I'm curious what may have happened to cause the board/LCD to die in the first place, and if that is the root cause of your troubles. Any more info on that would be helpful.
Good luck and I hope you can report back!
