I finally put on the Folger build mat. I didn't put it directly on the heater bed, because I didn't want the hassle of removing it in the event of failure and perhaps winding up with a sticky mess. So I stuck it on the 13" x 13" x 1/8" square of tempered glass I was using. (More on the glass later if anyone is interested.)
Since the build mat had been laying around the print room in various locations whilst building this beast, I grabbed a terry-cloth rag gave it a gentle wipe-down with denatured alcohol.
I printed a small but tall item on the mat, supported with a brim. No adhesive, because I'd rather not mess with that stuff if possible. Excellent! Best print I ever did. I now feel confident I can move ahead with fine-tuning my print settings! (And getting a hotter extruder and a dehydrator for the nylon filament.)
Thanks Wyvern for your input! I had regarded the mat as a bit of gratuitous advertising on behalf of Folger Tech.
