I was seriously considering a geared setup (probably Titan) as very thin layers at low temps can cause all sorts of issues, however, after fitting a Vocano hotend I have no reason for one, since the heat chamber is so long the pressures are dramatically reduced, I can print with a .6 nozzle at .1mm layers without so much as a single skip.
For an I3 rig I would run bowden and a geared extruder and have all the torque in the world.
I'm kicking around the Idea of a titan with a pancake stepper flying extruder setup for my delta, I have a regular flying setup, but the reduction in weight would help speed/fudge up torque (nozzle hitting print and skipping)
